Since last year, Woongjn Coway has been carrying out the strategy of enhancing brand image by establishing design identity that comprises its entire brands. Under the strategy, the company created the ‘Aura Design’ that pursues consumption for healthy life, and presented a guideline that can consistently manage brand images separated by product lines. This image initiative was adopted not only for product brands but also for ‘Cody’ uniforms and ‘Rental Houses’, contributing to establishment of the Woongjin Coway identity.
Woongjin Coway has made unreserved support for expansion of systems and investment for development of creative designs. To sharpen competitive edge in design, it increased investments by 400% and the size of manpower by 2.5 times over the previous year. It also changed the position of the design team to report directly to the president so that it can abbreviate the lead time in decision-making, and divided the team into two, the strategic part and development part, to intensify concentration.
As part of its strategy to increase presence in overseas markets, the company developed designs tailored for local markets in different countries, while joining hands with world prominent design firms such as IDEO and HER’s Design. The First Woongjin Coway Design Proposal Exhibition held in December last year was evaluated to have augmented capability to cope with rapidly changing trends and presented vision of future design of household electronics appliances. In November this year, the company expanded channels of developing designs by hosting a ‘college student design competition and exhibition’.
Outstanding achievements in design-oriented management were demonstrated by a variety of awards and certificates. Woongjin Coway’s water purifier ‘CHP06-DL’ received the authoritative Red-dot Design Award of Germany in water purifier sector. At the 42nd Korea Design Exhibition, the company won awards of the prime minister and president of Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA). It has also been selected for 4 consecutive years as the Top Design-Oriented Company of Korea (TDCK), an award given to the company that won the grand prize of the Korea Industrial Design Awards.
Upon receiving the Presidential Award, CEO Hong Jun-gi of Woongjin Coway said, “Woongjin Coway will concentrate its efforts on design-oriented management to satisfy changing needs of consumers and lead the sense of customers with its unique design philosophy.”
